Try dyeing! Work with food or fabric dye. You can try traditional tie-dye methods or just paint it on. Experiment with unconventional materials.

Since my sister's the queen of tie-dye, i thought i'd go a different route for today's assignment. I liked the idea of food dye – and craving pancakes, this felt like a perfect medium. I first poured batter into a pan, added a few drops of dye on top then made patterns using a chopstick. Since the coloured side was the second side to cook, the result was a surprise every time. Not only pretty, but delicious too!
